The JAMES GANG joins IFFCBAS for a tour of MV OOCL BERLIN in Savannah, GA

With grateful appreciation to Ms. Helen Beasley for arranging this event on behalf of the Independent Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers Association of Savannah, #JamesGang members Alex Jones, JR Cotton, and Steven Hollander tour the working vessel MV OOCL Berlin in the port of Savannah, GA today.  Tour participants included employees from regular member firms of IFFCBAS.  They were guided through the bridge, catwalks and a tour of the engine room.  What a great experience for all.

USTR to Consider Extending Certain Tariff Exclusions on $34 Billion of Chinese Imports

Washington, DC – The United States Trade Representative (USTR) will commence on November 1, 2019 a process for considering extending for up to twelve months certain exclusions from additional tariffs on Chinese imports that were granted last December and are set to expire on December 28, 2019. 

In a Federal Register notice to be published this week, USTR will provide details on the process for submitting comments favoring or opposing specified tariff exclusions.  The period for submitting comments will run from November 1, 2019 to November 30, 2019.

The JSJ Gang Charleston attends the SC International Trade Conference

This past week John S James Company attended the South Carolina International Trade Conference in Charleston. Our own Director of Import Compliance Myra Reynolds was a featured panelist at the SCITC Customs Update.

Rick Jones of the John S James Charleston office as well as JSJ Import Administrator Sean Kelley teamed up with Cole Creech and Nicolas Aboitiz of DAK Americas LLC teamed up for the Conference Golf Tournament. The foursome came in last place and won the “Most Honest Player Award”.

Action: China’s Acts, Policies, and Practices Related to Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property, and Innovation

AGENCY: Office of the United States Trade Representative.

ACTION: Notice of modification of action.

SUMMARY: In accordance with the specific direction of the President, the U.S. Trade Representative has determined to modify the action being taken in this Section 301 investigation by increasing the rate of additional duty from 10 to 15 percent for the products

of China covered by the $300 billion tariff action published on August 20, 2019.

DATES: For products covered by Annex A of the August 20, 2019 notice (84 FR 43304), the rate of additional duty will be 15 percent on the current effective date of September 1, 2019. For products covered by Annex C of the August 20 notice, the rate of additional duty will

be 15 percent on the current effective date of December 15, 2019.

Day Four – John S James Employee Appreciation Week 2019

Thursday in Atlanta was all about Health and Wellness with a Yogurt Bar and everyone in the office got a massage.

In Knoxville the team got busy with some quick shot basketball and an oreo challenge.

Charleston enjoyed some outdoor games while cooking out and sporting Hawaiian shirts, but the fun didn’t end there. Jill James our COO and Cornelia Steinart our Director of Foreign-Trade Zone Services joined them for an after hours Pizza get together.

Savannah dressed retro century and enjoyed some good old-fashioned dancing.

Day Three – John S James Employee Appreciation Week 2019

Our Knoxville branch had a challenging game of darts and got some delicious Pizza.

Savannah got busy with some Real Life Hungry Hungry Hippos and some Mummy Wrapping.

Charleston went last century retro and went for a Musical Chairs challenge.

Day Two – John S James Employee Appreciation Week 2019

Our Charleston Office got their greek on with Tuesday Togas and a paper airplane contest.

Our Savannah office enjoyed a ruthless game of last Balloon standing, snacking on trail mix to help fuel the competition and wearing geared up apparel. The also had a visit from the Garden City Fire-staff.

And our Atlanta Office set the wayback machine to the 1970s and had some tasty snacks.

We kicked off the John S James Employee Appreciation week in style with a Motivational Monday.

Our Savannah Office got some hearty carbs for breakfast followed up by some yoga and stretches.

Charlotte got busy with a Mexican Fiesta and a cornhole tournament.

Knoxville had an awesome breakfast plus a Heads Up challenge.

Our Charleston Office got motivated with a 4k Race-Walk.
